NEWS UPDATE This is where you will find the most up to date information......................
The consultation period for the plans for Chellaston Business Park (now renamed The Global Technology Cluster) and the T12 access road has now opened for 21 days from 25th January. It is understood by the CRA that work on the T12 could start as early as 2012, since much of the £40m business enterprise money given to the Council will be used on this project. (Posted 26.01.12) ******** View the crime figures for December in Police News . Please note that Police Surgeries are now held in the library. (Posted 30.01.12) ********** Most residents should have received a document from Talavera Properties Ltd who are proposing to build a residential development on 48 acres of land to the south of Chellaston (East of Swarkestone Road and north of the A50). Residents are urged to make their views known. For those who haven't received the document, it can be viewed here. (Posted 13.11.11) The land in question is on the edge of South Derbyshire. They will make the decision as to whether it goes ahead, but it will be Chellaston that suffers from the folly of such a development. Read more in Chairman's Corner . (Posted 21.11.11) A public meeting, organised by the CRA, was held on 1st February at Chellaston Academy to air the views of residents. (Posted 29.09.11) ********* The new Chellaston Medical Centre has now been open for a while now and we would be interested to hear from any patients who are having difficulty accessing the new facility. In response to our previous concerns, the surgery issued an access mitigation plan, which can be read here. (Posted 16.07.11) ******* We have been approached by Elle, who is a senior section member of a local Girlguiding group who has been trained as an In'4'mer/peer educator. They are looking to run sessions for groups of young people to address concerns and raise awareness of issues that affect them and others around them through informal education. Details and contact information can be found here. (Posted 02.06.11) ******** The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has adopted Resolution 1815 (Potential Dangers of Electromagnetic Fields and their Effect on the Environment). It is demanding that emission levels should be "as low as reasonably achievable" and that precautionary principles should be followed. In the meantime, the mobile phone companies are increasing emissions, by increasing the power outputs of their masts. The resolution, which can be read here mirrors what the CRA has been demanding for the last five years. (Posted 29.05.11) In addition, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), an arm of the World Health Organization (WHO), has declared after a review of the research that mobile phones are possible cancer-causing agents. They have now applied to the City Council (Planning ref: DER/11/10/01385, 6 and 7). Concerns regarding the existing section of the T12 (Holmleigh Way) remain, since the developers have no intention of changing the route, particularly now that the EMDA money is no longer available. David Ward from Wilson Bowden commented that "Holmleigh Way was built with the business park in mind". Warehousing now accounts for at least 50% of the park, which will lead to increased HGV traffic along the route. For more detail, click here. ********** Trading Standards and the Police are working hard to enforce the 7.5 tonne weight limit through Chellaston. parking is being targeted at three locations locally: ********* Vodafone have sought to vary their licence to double the output power of their 3G masts. The regulator, OFCOM, has obligingly suggested that all operators should be allowed to quadruple their power output at a time when other countries are reducing their exposure limits. UPDATE: Unsurprisingly, OFCOM have agreed to allow 3G operators
to double the power output of their base stations. Presumably
these decision makers do not have masts on their doorstep.
Meanwhile, further evidence of health effects
from the International Journal of
Occupational and Environmental Health:
******** Vodafone and O2 are now in bed together in an attempt to increase coverage and reduce costs. In a project codenamed Cornerstone they are sharing sites, so if you see a mast being removed, only to be replaced by a larger and more obtrusive one, then there is overnight an additional operator beaming microwave radiation in to the community. This is the case in the War Memorial Village and could easily happen in Chellaston.
