COMMENT We are considering a Message Board for the future. Until then, send your comments to us and we will print them on this page, but please give us permission to do this.
A Message from the Friends of Elvaston. We have many members and supporters for our campaign to prevent Derbyshire County Council from selling a 150 year lease on Elvaston Castle Country Park, which will see it completely altered forever and lost as an open access public open space. What we do not currently have are sufficient numbers of activists to carry forward some aspects of the campaign necessary to ensure its success. Quite simply, if you want to save this precious asset you have to fight for it. Are you one of those people who leaves these things to everyone else? All that we are asking is for a little of your time, as little as one hour a month! We meet on the second Wednesday of each month at the Moon Hotel, Station Road, Spondon, beginning at 7:30pm. The next meeting is on Wednesday, July 14th, or you can email us: info@friendsofelvaston.co.uk 21 July 2010 ************ RIP Spring Blossom Some
of you may remember the lovely annual spectacle of tree blossom
outside the RC church. Residents might like to join me in sending thanks and congratulations to a local hero: Mark Sherwood 5th April 2010

High Trees Surgery The proposal by the High Trees Health Centre to relocate from the centre of Chellaston to a remote location on the West Chellaston estate, which was reported on Setember 4, has now taken a further step towards coming to fruition with an application for planning permission being submitted (DER 08/09/00976/PRI). Whilst there is certainly a need for the rapidly expanding housing development of West Chellaston to have its own doctor's practice, this should not be to the detriment of the majority of Chellaston's residents, who appreciate the present accessible location of High Trees Medical Centre. The Chellaston Residents' Association's own research suggests that a move by the practice away from the centre would not be welcomed by many of its patients, who may decide to vote with their feet if the move goes ahead. The comment by the Primary Care Trust that the new location has been chosen because of the lack of available land in the centre of Chellaston is, in fact, untrue, as there is a perfect location just opposite the present surgery - the former Red Lion public house. This building could be easily converted in to a medical centre, has the advantage of ample parking provision and is served by buses from all parts of Chellaston. This site could be acquired if the PCT and the practice moved quickly. It is about time that the PCT considered the needs of the residents of Chellaston and not just those of the doctor's practice.
