All Weather Pitch, Chellaston School

The all weather pitch application has been passed BUT the residents who objected have started legal proceedings against the council.
They need support in this, please contact them to offer help and support
This will affect all of Chellaston and it is just one more sign that the views of the people are not important to the council departments.
Even our councillors were ignored by the planning department.
Support the residents who need help now.

Surely I am not the only Chellaston resident to be in favour of the above proposal?  There is a lot of negative talk about the development on the pages and I would like to see the other side of the story aired as well!
As the parent of a child who plays for Chellaston Boys & Girls FC, I think it’s about time we had some decent training facilities in Chellaston.  In the past, we have had to travel to Chaddesden (Leasbrook) for decent facilities and currently use the Sinfin facilities.  How much better it would be to stick local and reduce the carbon footprint by not having to travel by car every week to training sessions!
The Council are forever telling us parents that we need to encourage them to be active and we need more not less investment in sporting facilities in the area!  Can I also ask why West Chellaston has been deprived of play facilities for so long?  I moved onto the estate in 2001 and there is still only play facilities for the younger under 5’s.  Kids over 5 need play facilities as well!

In reply to footie mad parent:

I am working for the residents who are apposed to the all weather pitch and I need to clear up a couple of points

The residents are not against the children of Chellaston having good playing areas.  But they are against the opening times of up to 9:30 at night every night of the week for every week of year and 6:30 every weekend night.  Why do we have to have in Chellaston the cars and disturbances of the Castle Donington and Melbourne clubs?  How much carbon footprint and traffic chaos will all their cars create?

Yes, let’s have the best in Chellaston but not in the wrong place.

We all work for a better Chellaston and I think if the opening hours were amended or the money spent on the pitch already in Chellaston that is under used, a lot of our money would not be wasted by the council on this case

Please contact me to discuss, if you want to know the true facts about this case

PS  I have spent the last 20 years coaching rugby in the area so I am not against sport...just against get rich quick developments riding on the backs of good sporting.

High Trees Surgery

The proposal by the High Trees Health Centre to relocate from the centre of Chellaston to a remote location on the West Chellaston estate, which was reported on Setember 4, has now taken a further step towards coming to fruition with an application for planning permission being submitted (DER 08/09/00976/PRI).

Whilst there is certainly a need for the rapidly expanding housing development of West Chellaston to have its own doctor's practice, this should not be to the detriment of the majority of Chellaston's residents, who appreciate the present accessible location of High Trees Medical Centre.  The Chellaston Residents' Association's own research suggests that a move by the practice away from the centre would not be welcomed by many of its patients, who may decide to vote with their feet if the move goes ahead.

The comment by the Primary Care Trust that the new location has been chosen because of the lack of available land in the centre of Chellaston is, in fact, untrue, as there is a perfect location just opposite the present surgery - the former Red Lion public house.  This building could be easily converted in to a medical centre, has the advantage of ample parking provision and is served by buses from all parts of Chellaston.  This site could be acquired if the PCT and the practice moved quickly.

It is about time that the PCT considered the needs of the residents of Chellaston and not just those of the doctor's practice.

Skateboarding at Pit Close Rec

Me and my mates all skateboard and we were extremely annoyed when we learned that the half pipe at Pit Close rec had been demolished. We would like to know the reason for it been demolished and whether or not a new skate park will be built in its place or somewhere else in Chellaston.  We understand that most people find us annoying and we accept that, therefore we need a place to skate and the council seem to have demolished that place.
