A VISION FOR CHELLASTON

THE SUPPLEMENTARY PLANNING DOCUMENT

The Association has embarked on an ambitious project to protect the village centre from development that is inappropriate to the area.  The formulation of a Supplementary Planning Document is at the heart of the project, enabling the residents of Chellaston to have their voice heard and be active in shaping the future of this area.

The initiative was launched to the public at the Annual General Meeting and Forum held on 30th March 2009.  However, there has been a great deal of work behind the scenes to make this project possible.

A questionnaire was delivered to all Chellaston residents in September '09 to determine what is wanted and what is not wanted in the village.  Thank you to everyone who returned our questionnaire.  The analysis of the results can be seen here.

The second questionnaire, a rather more comprehensive document, delivered to all homes in February, has now been collated and the results will be published shortly.

So, why are we going to all of this trouble?  Phil Bailey, SPD Co-ordinator sums it up:

 Ten reasons why it is important to local people:

 1.    It sets out the character of the village in a way that will encourage locally distinctive design;

 2.    It gives (us) the community a recognised voice in the planning processes that affect the visual quality of the village;

 3.    It supports and strengthens the role of the people of the village when consulted over planning applications;

 4.    It is a representative view of local people of the character of the village;

 5.    It demonstrates local commitment to high quality design and appropriate development that will improve the quality of life of those in the village;

 6.    It contributes to securing a thriving and viable future for the village;

 7.    It enables local priorities to be considered in the development process;

 8.    It enables local people to be able to respond in an informed and professional manner to planning and development proposals in the village;

 9.   Your views for the future of the village will be formally noted;

10.  We, with this document can make a difference to the future of our village.
