RECREATION GROUND

Chellaston Recreation Action Group was formed several years ago to come up with ideas to transform the recreation ground at the rear of the Community Centre and to find ways of funding the venture.  By  working in conjunction with the Residents' Association, several hurdles were cleared and funds were obtained to kick the project off.  Consultation was vital and residents in the area were asked for their views on topics relating to the recreation ground.  To this end, questionnaires were sent out to residents close to the park and was available on this website.  Results of this can be found here.  (pdf. file)

At the Area Panel 2 meeting on Wed 12th May 2006, £1000 was awarded to the Association.  This, together with £500 from the police and other generous donations, particularly from the Co-Op and Robinson Construction have been used to push the project forward.

CRAG was formally disbanded due to key members leaving the area and other pressing demands but since the funds had been paid in to the Association's account, it was incumbent on us to ensure that the money was spent as promised to those who donated.

The first stage was the erection of a youth shelter.
Shelters such as this have been useful, together with other initiatives, in reducing anti-social behaviour, in many areas of the country.

This was erected in September 2008 and appears to have been a success with the local young people.

The picture shows Chairman, John Bowden with a representative from Midlands Co-Op, who kindly donated £1000.  We are extremely grateful to them and other local companies and organisations who helped us with this aspect of the project, including Robinson Construction, Rolls Royce, Derbyshire Police and Area Panel 2.
